Dolly!

I'm just going to go all out with this one and post Dolly Parton as a style icon. While most of us probably don't set out to look like this multi talented, smart, and funny lady she has undoubtedly left her mark on American fashion. Her larger than life persona (among other things)has helped her become one of the most successful female singer songwriters of our time. Here's to the Queen of Country Music!

Tunic Top and Yellow Belt

When I get dressed in the morning to head into the studio I'll admit that the first thing I think about is comfort. I want to look chic and wear vintage as well but I move around a lot and spend a lot of time in front of the computer so feeling good is key. I don't want things poking or pinching me and sorry to be an old lady but I love stretchy clothes. That's why today I wore leggings and this tunic top that I completely forgot that I owned. I put it off the shoulder to make it a little longer so it covers my rear. I must say I'm impressed with this laundry day thrown together outfit!

Fidget Finds First Ever Giveaway!!

I've decided that every few weeks or so I'm going to host a giveaway. It's a great way to thank my readers and winning free stuff makes everyone's day, right? This week the item up for grabs is a fantastic vintage pendant necklace. It's on a longer chain, has a great shape, and is certainly unique. I've always loved this piece and I can't wait to see who gets to own it next! All you have to do is visit my etsy shop and comment on this post telling me what your favorite piece is. On Friday I will randomly choose a winner and promptly ship out your new necklace. Easy, right?

After a very busy weekend I decided to take it easy yesterday. I slept a little late and spent my afternoon scoping out new thrift and consignment shops and stopping by my favorites of course. I didn't have much luck finding new places but I did find a fantastic pair of Nine West Studio shoes for $18! They have brown suede platforms, leather soles, and teal crocheted ties. I'm pretty sure you're just meant to wrap the ties around your ankle but I much prefer wrapping them around my foot and under the shoe for an elaborate criss cross strappy look. They even have tassels in the back!

Action Packed!

Pheww, what a weekend! Saturday was spend at Craft O Rama in New Bedford where I got the chance to meet some really great people, and on Sunday my booth was filled to the brim all day at Sowa in Boston! The weather was absolutely perfect (besides some gusts of wind that broke my mirror and knocked my clothing rack over, twice!) and I was so glad to be outside all day. Now it's time for some restocking. Don't even think about asking me about those sunglasses, they're all gone!

PS- Quote of the weekend goes to a mother talking to her four year old son, "I don't want you growling at people today. Okay? I don't want to keep on having to tell you." It was so funny that I had to write it down. The best part was that she was totally calm, like she was telling him to not wipe his nose on his sleeve or something.

Bike Rides on Beautiful Days

I forgot how much fun it is to ride a bike! After much pestering, I finally agreed to go for a ride with Brian a few weekends ago and it was a total blast. (I really don't know why I was so hesitant to go, maybe I was a little scared after multiple near death bike riding incidents in Thailand.) So now on nice days I just hop on my bike and go for a spin around town before I head to the studio. There are so many beautiful places to see in Tiverton and I really don't mind spending the rest of the day indoors if I get some fresh air in the morning. It's a great way to exercise and I find myself exploring places I haven't been since a child. Ahh, I just love the simple things!

Some cows just chilling. I don't know why they're lying down, it doesn't look like its going to rain.

A few days before this picture was taken I saw a huge blue heron in this marsh. He wasn't here today. Instead I saw many colorful chirping birds, a few dragonflies, and two frogs that were too quick for the camera.

This is the falling down old fish market across from my parents' house. I looked in vain for starfish under the rocks. This place used to be teeming with them!

DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE OPEN MARKETS THIS WEEKEND!!
I will be at Craft-O-Rama in Downtown New Bedford tomorrow from 11-6 and Sowa in Boston on Sunday from 10-4. I have tonsandtons of new awesome summer wardrobe items; colorful dresses, straw bags, chunky necklaces, statement rings, and much more!!

New Do

I love my new hair! It's getting longer but still has good volume and curls. I also applied some of the tricks that Amy taught me yesterday to wear my new makeup in an everyday sorta way. I think I'm getting the hang of it!

A New Leaf

When you have curly hair and you get it cut, you know that you are going to be leaving the salon with frizzy, kinda curly, nothing to do about it but wash it and style it yourself, hair. My hair routine is to wash it without combing it, wrapping it in a towel for a few minutes, and then apply some curl product while it is still wet. Then I scrunch it around a bit throughout the day. Fool proof. When you get a cut they have to leave it drying for a while during the cut before they add product. I know this is inevitable but it really kills the instant satisfaction factor. I can't wait to wash it tomorrow morning to really see my new do!

Having my makeup done was really fun and informative. Amy G at New Leaf is a great makeup artist and she taught me many tricks on how to apply and maintain your makeup. I have numerous weddings to go to this summer so I wanted a fresh face/smokey eye look. I feel like I am much better prepared to apply eyeliner and shadow now. I even indulged in a few Smashbox and Cargo products; some champagne eye shadow, a black eyeliner, and reverse lip liner which is a nude colored pencil that you apply around your lips on your skin to keep your lipstick in place. Great for bright reds that run onto your skin. Because I never wear makeup, I feel kinda silly when I do, like a kid who just went crazy in her mom's makeup box. I think a happy medium between the before and after is good for me. See you tomorrow with my new haircut and (hopefully) improved makeup skills!

Outfit Post

Most of my friends know that I never wear makeup; I hardly own any and even if I did I would have no idea how to apply it. That being said I usually always put on black eyeliner and curl my eyelashes (which happen to be really long but pin straight) with my trusty Shu Uemura curler before taking photos of myself. I even got my hands on some red lipstick to wear during store photo shoots. It stays on well during the time it takes me to take photos but seeing as I don't own lip liner it spreads to my skin soon after. Well, the bag that holds these items was left behind today hence untouched face photos.

However, things are about to change! Tomorrow, in addition to a hair cut (something I haven't done since before Christmas), I am getting a FREE makeup consultation at New Leaf Hair Studio in Bristol, RI. I love this place. The people that work there are super talented and really nice. I have never had a negative experience there. I am so excited to get pampered for a couple of hours and I will be sure to take some before and after shots. Stay tuned!

Fidget Finds Spring Happenings!

Happy Beautiful Spring Days Everyone!

I hope you all have had a great 2010 so far! Mine has been full of adventures and new beginnings. I started this year with a trip to Thailand and Laos. It was a wonderful experience, full of culture and learning but I will tell you that I am so happy to be home! Being away really showed me how fortunate I am to have every thing that I do. I try every day to take nothing for granted. Blue skies, leaves on the trees, and colorful birds everywhere make this so much easier!

Fidget Finds has moved to a huge studio space in Fall River, Massachusetts. It's got positive creative energy and I love having room to spread out. I will be having open studio days this summer so all my local friends can stop by and check out my work space. More and more items are being added to Fidget Finds' online store every week. Check it out at www.fidgetfinds.etsy.com.

Summer market season has started! Catch me this Saturday during Craft-O-Rama at Wing's Court in Downtown New Bedford from 11-6. There will be music, art, craft, vintage, and a farmer's market. It's supposed to be a spectacular day and I would love to see you! I am participating in Boston's famed South End Open Market again this year. Find me there at 460 Harrison Ave on May 23, and June 6, 20, and 27. As per usual there will be tons of amazing artists, crafters, and vintage vendors selling their wares.

Don't forget to check out Fidget Finds' Blog! I've been really good about updating multiple times a week with fashion, local events, and shop updates. I am currently in the process of putting together a section of my customers wearing items they've bought from my shop. Please, please email me photos of you wearing your favorite Fidget items and you might be featured! www.fidgetfinds.blogspot.com

I am sososo excited for the spectacular summer that we are certain to have and I hope to see you all really soon!

Love and Vintage,

Environmental Day

As I mentioned previously this week, I was invited to speak at my old high school's Environmental Day this morning. I was really nervous about speaking in front of such a large crowd but the event went really well. It was completely surreal to walk the halls of my old school and see many of the teachers who shaped who I am today. Things change, but they also remain exactly the same. I met lots of wonderful students who are interested in eco fashion and two girls that have started their own non profit where they collect donated prom dresses and offer them to students for free! Recycling and young entrepreneurship at its best. Two of my best friends were also on the panel. Sarah Forrest who lives and works in Boston is an environmental mechanical engineer. She recently finished working on a state of the art green school in Newton, MA. Caitlin Luderer is an environmental scientist but is also well versed and very interested in eco torism. There was also Joe McLaughlin, the very entertaining property manager of Norman Bird Sanctuary in Middletown, RI and Bill Gerlach who has a very informative website; The New Pursuit. For all the students that heard me speak today, I would love to continue the dialogue of fashion being environmentally sound. Email me at fidgetfinds@gmail.com with any questions or comments. I really look forward to hearing from you!!
