Wedding Weekend

What a fun weekend I had! On Saturday morning I went to some yard sales and bought some great stuff; vintage jewelry, a beaded purse, a stitched coastal scene wall hanging, a dolphin soap dispenser, and an awesome mod coffee table for $3. That afternoon Brian and i attended his cousin's wedding ceremony right on the water at a private residence in Bristol, RI. It was a little gray out which is why the photos aren't popping with wonderful bright summer colors, but beautiful nonetheless. I wore a vintage dress that I bought at an auction a few months ago. The color couldn't be more perfect and it fits like it was made for me. You can't really see it in the photos, but the circles are ornate designs in gold print. I accessorized with gold vintage jewelry and newer shoes from TJ Maxx. An older woman told me that I looked so beautiful and sophisticated while so many of the other women there "are dressed like trash." I guess that's the thing about wearing vintage; you can look sexy without showing too much. That and old people will love you because you remind them of their youth. The reception was held that evening at The State Room in Boston. It's a function venue on the 33rd floor right in downtown. The views were amazing and it was great to watch the city lights come up as the sun went down. The food was absolutely delicious and we had so much fun dancing. For some reason there were long skinny balloons floating around and Brian had me in stitches after he whipped up a balloon animal giraffe in about 5 seconds. That boy never ceases to amaze me. (Apparently he had a "How to Make Balloon Animals" book as a child.)

Sunday was spent at the SOWA Open Market and what a perfect day! The sun was bright and shining and my booth was full the entire time. I'm so glad you gals love Fidget Finds so much! My next SOWA won't be until July 18th as there is no market on the 4th and I have a wedding the following weekend. I will be posting items on etsy this week and next, so stay tuned!

La Pelouse Vert (et la robe aussi!)

Working on cushions for my mom's new sunroom today which happen to be, you guessed it, green! We go through so many months of dismal grays and browns that I can't get enough of this wonderful full of life color when it blesses us with its presence. Concerning grays and browns, I watched "The Road" last night, based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy. One of the most depressing movies ever. I started reading the book a few years ago but it was such a downer that I couldn't get through it. It's about a father and son as they trek across the US after the apocalypse. All wildlife and vegetation have died and cannibalism is rampant as bands of less than moral gangs try to find their next meal. Everyone is freezing cold, sick and starving, it's really a gruesome picture of what might happen if the world as we know it ends. Needless to say, but I was so happy to wake up this morning to blue skies and that green green grass.

Weekend Recap

Phew, I'm tired. Going straight into a busy weekend from an exhausting week long trip has left me feeling like I need to sleep for three days. But, it was a pretty great weekend. Saturday was Caitlin's Wedding Shower and it was so much fun. Everyone looked so festive and fun in their summer dresses and strappy heels. There were delicious things to eat like Sarah's first time ceviche with shrimp and scallops, black bean salad, caprese skewers, and a green salad with goat cheese and strawberries. And of course there was a wonderful array of gourmet cupcakes for dessert that made a simply stunning centerpiece. The weather couldn't have been more perfect and we spent the entire day outside. Oh, I almost forgot about my dress! This spectacular orange number once belonged to my grandmother. Yes, my mother's mother wore this in the 70's. Pretty amazing, huh? I've actually had it for quite a while but this is the first time I've worn it. There was a built in bra that needed to be taken out and I made straps from the original halter and now it fits me perfectly. I absolutely love wearing pieces that have family history, I'm really lucky to be able to do so. Thanks for saving great pieces Gram! I paired the dress with my gold seashell belt, an adorable owl pendant necklace, and my gyroscope-esqe ring. That evening was spent at Carrie's adorable cottage in the woods in Westport, MA where we goofed off, ate more food, and played with fireworks. Don't worry everyone left with all limbs attached.

Sunday was another sunny day that I spent in Boston at the South End Open Market. It was a bit slower than usual due to the holdiay, but a fun day nonetheless. I am in total jewelry overload so come find your new favorite summer piece! I'll be there again this Sunday so come say hello!

Holy Hotness

Dear Bonnaroo,
Why were you so effin hot? Why do you try to squeeze a million people in a space that's not capable to hold them? You see I wanted to run and frolic and see tons of bands every day but I was too busy laying under my canopy trying not to die of heat exhaustion (which someone actually did.) I wanted to stay up late having dance parties but you made me get up at 7 every morning because you turned my tent into an oven. I wanted to wear super cute outfits everyday, but you made me pick function over fashion. I wish you hadn't given me a panic attack when you tried to move tens of thousands of people through a 30 foot corridor that was half ankle deep mud to see the Flaming Lips. I heard it was a great show but I could only hear echos from our campsite that was a 30 min walk away. But the music that I did see, oh the music!, was fantastic! Steve Martin playing the banjo, perfect. Stevie Wonder, the best thing I've ever seen. There was also Dead Weather, The Gossip, She and Him, Dave Matthews, Jack Black, Kings of Leon, Conan O'Brian, and Jay Z. Oh Jay Z you have so many fun hits and I was so happy to hear them and dance along. You, my friend, put on a great show. I also loved watching Footloose at 8 am in the air conditioned movie tent. The singing along and dancing in the aisles made it very memorable. I was really trying to keep my eyes open, I swear. Well, good and bad you will stay in my heart forever. I've never experienced anything quite like you and I don't think that I ever will again. You left me hot and sticky and forever longing for a shower and my own bed, but you know what, after it's all said and done, thanks for the memories.
Love,
Nicole (never going to Tennessee in June again) Lebreux

Festival Week!

I can't beleive it's finally here! I feel like we've been planning this trip to Bonnaroo forever. Camping equipment, check. Tons of yummy groceries, check. Rain gear, check. And most importantly, cute summer dresses and a big floppy hat, double check. Needless to say I will be away from a computer until probably June 17 (I'm not sure what out drive home plans are) so there won't be any blogging until then. However, upon my return I will have tons and tons of stories and photos to share with you. I hope everyone has a fun week and I'll be back soon!

Bonnaroo!!

Exactly one week from right now I will be in Manchester, Tennessee setting up my tent at the Bonnaroo Music Festival and I am beyond excited! I have never been to a big music fest like this before and I can't wait to hear some fantastic bands (Stevie Wonder is going to be there!!!) and camp out with my friends. I've been thinking about what to pack as far as clothing is concerned and I think I'm going to keep it simple with summer dresses, cutoffs and tanks. I would love to strap some big ol' wooden platforms on my feet but I have a feeling that flops and rain boots are going to be a bit more practical. Here's some photos from one of the original music fests, Woodstock in 1969 that are always chock full of inspiration.
